For years my sister went on about how her wedding was going
to take place. Every detail had been
mapped out. Nothing was left to
chance. Talk about a control freak and
she wasn’t even engaged. I loved her,
but she was a little kooky. Finally, she
was engaged to a great guy. The whole
family was thrilled for her. Since she
had been planning her wedding for so long none of us thought to even ask her if
there was anything we could do.
Surprisingly she too was at a loss as her envisioned wedding no longer
applied with her fiance. She actually
had to consider his desires in this union.
Back to the drawing board she went.
Without skipping a beat she organized everything. It was as if a fairy godmother waved a magic
wand.
However, mom and dad were at a complete loss as to what to
give my younger sister and her fiancé. They
were so happy for her and wanted something unique, something unexpected and
truly memorable. What had panache and
could be enjoyed by all? I too wanted to
contribute to something spectacular which would be remembered by all. Without hesitation we started
brainstorming. Ideas like personalized
his and her pens, a honeymoon in Tahiti, even his and her boogie boards were
offered up. While these were all fun we
wanted something more lasting, something which would remind them of the
celebratory day of their engagement.
With little effort we found Engrave-a-remembrance. They had a beautiful selection of fine
champagne; which on its own seems predictable, but they had a twist. They will engrave a selected champagne bottle
with a personal message. This was
perfect. We all went in on two cases
with the date of their wedding and the years that had passed. For example, on their fifth bottle it read
the date of the wedding and wished them a happy 5th
anniversary. As well, Engrave-a-remembrance
offered engraved
champagne flutes which we included for each year. Commemorate an occasion with a toast.
What does one give to someone who has everything? I remember years ago of unique things people
would do to profess their love, undying friendship or devotion. Things like engraving a tree or having a
single engine plane fly a banner with a marriage proposal. There are some very creative people out
there. One event stuck out in my
mind. It was a wedding anniversary for a
couple celebrating their 25th year together. Their children gave them a bottle of wine
engraved with the date of their marriage and a wish for another 25 years of
bliss. The glasses were even engraved
with their names. It was truly memorable
while being a bit whimsical. From the
look of it this couple was lacking for nothing so it was an appropriate
celebratory gift.
I was now in a similar situation, though not for a 25th
wedding anniversary.
My gift was for my best man who was in need of nothing. He had been married for several years now and
in fact introduced me to my fiancé. We
had been friends for years and had been in more than a few scrapes
together. A friend through thick and
thin is how we looked upon each other.
He had even helped me choreograph my proposal. Recently, he had to put his dog of 15 years
down and it broke his heart. He swore
not to get another pooch until he was ready.
He was ready, but he needed a nudge.
Thinking of that engraved
bottle of wine I went looking to see if anything like
that was available. Eureka! It was
champagne, better yet. I could have a
bottle of premium champagne and two flutes engraved from Engrave-a-Remembrance. It was perfect. Being the great friend that I am I took him
to get a new pooch. I had prepicked the
little guy and he was a match. Upon
getting home to thank him I handed he and his wife the Engrave-a-Remembrance
gift with the date of bringing home his new best friend. I choreographed that all on my own.
A coworker was at his wits end trying to find something
really special for his wife on their first home. They were the cutest couple. He was always getting her little gifts
expressing his love. For years they had
saved for a home together. Now that they
were expecting it couldn’t have been better timing to have found their dream
home. It was a charming home. In fact, he asked me to take a look at it before
he showed it to his wife. He wanted a
disinterested opinion. Boy, did he
strike gold. The layout was open and
inviting. It had a manageable yard with
room for kids. Now he wanted a special
house warming gift for her to celebrate their good fortune. If anyone could find that type of gift he was
the one. After all he had been
surprising her for years with gifts of love.
He implored me to assist in this quest. This was far from my forte. I am lucky if I can remember to get a
birthday card let alone a unique
gift to commemorate an event of this magnitude. The criteria were first home and happy
motherhood. This was one heck of a
challenge for the gift giving impaired such as me. I figured that a toast to the occasion was
in order, but she was with child so that probably wasn’t the best timing. However, when I found Engrave-a-Remembrance
I had to tell my buddy about it. He
loved the idea of getting a superior bottle of champagne engraved with his
personal message on the bottle and two flutes which he would open when the baby
reached one year of age. Engrave-a-Remembrance
saved the day and my refuted my reputation for being gift giving impaired.
